Remember the days when you were little, going to school and meeting your First Grade teacher? Now that you were a "big kid" (not in Kindergarten anymore) this was a very big deal. Remember how excited you felt when you got into your teacher's line, came into the class (your class now) and sat at your very own "big kid" desk? Remember when you got the yellow pencil (just like Mom and Dad's) instead of the big fat black one the little (Kindergarten kids) use? Remember being a little scared that you wouldn't know the right words when called on to read, or how to add the numbers correctly, or worse yet, forgot your homework? And most of all, remember when your First Grade teacher, at the end of the year, gave you a big hug and said "You were one of the best kids I've ever had. I will miss you."...

Those days are still here, only now your child is experiencing those same feelings.

First Grade is the time when you learn to love school not only for your friends and fun, but to appreciate the love of learning. In First Grade, the transitional year, the children learn to grow up a little bit more than Kindergarten, are responsible for themselves in a more dramatic way, and learn the biggest secret to life...how to READ.

Skills are important in First Grade as the children are prepared for Second Grade. Some of the skills taught by our First Grade teachers are:

Reading

Mathematics

Writing

Language Arts

Science

Social Studies

Social Skills

Homework

These skills help your child to grow into an educated young person ready to enter Second Grade. Although at times, First Grade may seem hard, this preparation is helping your child to make the transition needed.

Some of the wonderful events during First Grade are:

The President's Play

The 100th Day of School

The First Grade Carnival
