The PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

In our Physical Education classes we work on building athletic ability as well as self-confidence. Grades are based on preparation and participation, but more importantly on their attitudes. Teamwork and good sportsmanship are the primary focus in each activity that we do. Being able to work well with others, in any situation, is something that they will need throughout their lives. In the younger grades (k-2), we work on many basic skills- throwing, catching, bouncing, tracking skills, locomotor skills, muscular development, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance- just to name a few. We work on these skills in stations for optimal practice and minimal stress.
In stations students can work with two or three others on a particular skill, while listening to today's coolest music. This limits any embarrassment a child may have practicing a certain skill and builds confidence and esteem while jamming to the music. K-2 grades also are introduced to many group games that they could play at home, with friends or at recess.
The older grades (3-4) practice skill development as well. They are also introduced to cooperative activities and group challenges, which are great for group dynamics. Grades 3-4 participate in many conditioning activities and team sport activities. The focus, in every grade, is sportsmanship and teamwork- not to mention FUN! Any type of game or competition is ended with friendly handshakes and the words, "good game"!
