Language Arts Literacy

Fourth graders focus on many comprehension skills. Writing skills are also very important. The students are required to write a picture story, a narrative, a persuasive letter, and a poem interpretation for their portfolio.

Math

Geometry, time measurement, graphs, fractions, computation, data, probability, and decimals are emphasized in fourth grade.

Science

Light, sound, heat, weather, planets, food chain, properties, ecology, human body, water cycle, plants, magnets and electricity are the important skills taught in science.

Social Studies

New Jersey history is the main focus in fourth grade. Early American history is also introduced. The students visit Washington's Crossing in June.

Fourth grade students are given the Elementary School Proficiency Test (E.S.P.A.), a state-wide test in May.
