OUR ISLAND OF BRIGANTINE

Our home is made on a tiny island off of the New Jersey Coast. We are a full year community which increases greatly during the summer months. Our gray sandy shores attract people from all over the country. We are located over the bridge from the famous Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Our climate is temperate-cold Winters, wet Springs, hot and humid Summers and beautiful Falls.

We have one school district on the island, the Brigantine School District. It accommodates kindergarten to eighth grade children and at last count was housing close to 1200 students. We send our high school students off the island to Atlantic City.

We have a beautiful park made by the community called Shark Park. The children love playing on this state-of-the-art playground.

Speaking of playing, we spend our summers romping on the beach, fishing and swimming in the bay and sailing through the inlets.

Winters find us huddle down and buried in because we have tremendous winds which are quite fierce during the cold season.

We have a tendency to flood, not snow. So our children are used to "FLOOD" days instead of "SNOW" days.

We have foxes on our island. They still run free in the dunes on the northern end of the island. We have plenty of sea gulls and nasty flies called "Green Heads". They have been known to take chunks out of our visitors. These nasty little pests do bite!

Our island is a beautiful place to be. It's such a wonderful place, that even the Lenape Indians hundreds of years ago would vacation here.

We also used to be a favorite stow away spot for pirates! Captain Kidd even buried a treasure here!
