What is publishing?
Publishing is the final step in the writing process. When you
publish a work, you take your completed, correct copy and create the
most visibly pleasing work you can so that it can be shared with others.
How do I publish my writing?
Publishing your work can be done either by hand, on the computer, or
a combination of both. You should first write (in your best handwriting)
or type your work. You can then add illustrations, borders, create a
book, or upload your work to the World Wide Web. You are ready to share
your story with the world!
A word of caution- NEVER publish anything on the Web without first checking
with your teacher or a parent. They can help you to determine if the
Web site you are writing to is legitimate.
Tips for Publishing
-
If you are hand writing your document, use blue
or black ink only. Fancy colored
pens are difficult to read.
-
Whenever possible, type your paper. Teachers
have a lot of practice in reading all kinds of handwriting, but
most people do not.
-
Write on only one side of the paper. This
will prevent ink and indentations from coming through.
-
Center your title at the top of the page
and leave a line space before your writing.
Number your pages in case your writing
comes unstapled or unbound.
-
Add illustrations, but only when called
for. For example, if you wrote a story about a little girl who got
a new puppy, pictures might emphasize your writing. If you are writing
a persuasive essay on school uniforms, however, illustrations may not a good idea.

Microsoft Word Connections
If you already completed the earlier stages of your writing
in Microsoft Word, publishing is a snap. Simply format your already
corrected document, add some clip art or borders, and print it out!
If you completed your writing by hand and plan to type it for final
publication, make sure to read it over for errors you may have accidentally
added when typing. You can also share your work with others by e-mailing it or publishing it on the Web using Microsoft Word.
